San Vito Lo Capo

Our final day of vacation was spent in San Vito Lo Capo. The plan was simply to relax.  There were nearby sights to see but our primary goal was simply to rest.

Before the clouds rolled in...

We stayed at the Hotel Mira Spiaggia which overlooked the white sandy beach. We spent much of our time sitting out on the front patio either sipping hot tea or wine (depending on the time of day) and reading.  We did take one stroll around the town.  In pre-tourist-season preparation there was a lot of construction as businesses spiffied things up for the summer crowds.

Not long into our exploration rain sent us scurrying back to our hotel and the protection of the covered patio where we could relax and enjoy the view while staying dry. I didn't take many pictures but I did get a massage.  We also got a chance to try out a regional specialty - Couscous con Pesce.  It was amazing!  The flavors were very eastern Mediterranean and showed the influence of the many different cultures that make up the melting pot of Sicily.

San Vito Lo Capo was beautiful and I think would be a lot of fun during the summer months (except August when all of Europe will be there).  We might just have to go back to get some sun along with our relaxation.  We stayed in San Vito for two nights and then headed back home.

Our vacation was fantastic and I'm so glad we were able to spend some quality time in western Sicily - something that was a must-do before we move back to the states.

Hi Angela,
My wife and I love your site and all your great photos. We are considering moving to sicily from san diego for a job opportunity at Sigonella. We are overwhelmed with all the options and things to organize. First would you recommend moving there? and where on the island?

Hi Nick,

Thank you for visiting my blog!!

First off - San Diego to Sicily is a HUGE change, but a worthwhile one if you love to travel and experience new things.

Sicily is an amazing place with a lot to see, and the food is fantastic!

As for where to live, Sig is close to Catania as a major city, but there are several small towns as well. You may choose to live further out, just because it is a bit nicer than near the base. Anything in the foothills of Etna would be lovely, as would anything up the coast in the Aci's.

I hope that helps a little. If you'd like you can email me directly at anglouise@gmail.com. I may not have answers to all of your questions, but I'm happy to help where I can!
